RECAPITULATE November 28, 2011

This quote pretty much recapitulates one of  the novel’s main themes.  Of course, we understand that the mockingbird is symbolic for those characters who share its traits.

Bruce had a nightmare last night, and when he told his older sister Kylie the news she groaned.
“Make it short this time Bruce,” she moaned. It was just another typical morning, Bruce unable to recapitulate his dreams, instead being very verbose while telling them.
“This one is special Kylie,” Bruce said so quietly it was like he was half talking half whispering. Kylie looked at Bruce askance, this wasn’t like him usually he’d be only a quarter through his dream after 10 minutes.
“What do you mean Bruce?” Kylie asked. Bruce didn’t answer instead he went he looked out the kitchen window.
“Bruce?” Kylie said, tapping his shoulder, “I didn’t mean to offend you go on with your story.” Bruce didn’t say anything, instead he walked over to the window and opened it.
“Bruce, it’s freezing outside close the window!” Kylie said. When Bruce didn’t close it she walked over briskly shutting the window.
“NO!” Bruce screamed and pushed Kylie away rather roughly, “your blocking them out! Can’t you hear them? They want to help Kylie!!!” Kylie stared at Bruce with amazement and shock.
“Bruce, what’s wrong? What are you talking about? Nobodies out there!” she yelled. Bruce had re-opened the window and nodded his head, then he whispered something Kylie couldn’t hear.
“Bruce? Bruce I’m calling mom right now,” she whispered, she was scared, what was wrong with her little brother?
“You can’t,” whispered Bruce, his face was chalk white.
“What do you mean Bruce? Your sick go back to bed,” Kylie demanded.
“NO! I’m not! Your the only connection don’t you see? It’s now or never Kylie!” he replied. Kylie dialed her mom’s number hurredly, but on the other end there was only a dead tone. Bruce was starting to walk towards Kylie hiding something behind his back. Kylie tried to flee but something had stopped her. She turned around and there was Bruce holding onto her shirt with an impossible grip for a 10 year old.
“This is the only way Kylie, I’m sorry but they’re right this is the only way,” he whispered, behind his back he pulled out one of their kitchen knifes. Kylie was as still as a deer in front of a car’s headlights.
“Who are you talking about Bruce? What’s the only way?” she managed to say. Bruce didn’t answer instead he muttered to himself; yes, yes I’m going to, you’re sure this is the right way? Ah-huh I get you, I get you. He raised his knife closed his eyes and chanted something. The neighborhood was silent, not a leaf dared to drop, it was almost peaceful like, then came the scream……….

While watching the Harry Potter movies with my family, my mom has the habit of asking numerous questions. 15. Hailey McCullough Says:

She walked slowly through the field pink and yellow flowers. She felt the rain pounding on her body, the field of colour was covered in transparent liquid. Kate’s hair was soaked in water, she fell to her knees and screamed facing her head up against the hard rain. Her eyes were watery, filling up with her sorrow. She saw it recapitulate through her head once more.
    ———————————————————————
He turned up the radio until his red, beat up truck, shook. It was Katie’s favorite song, she laughed looking into his perfect blue eyes. He was 24 and she was 21, they were the happiest couple in this “loving” world. He looked at her and she at him, they were in love he held out his hand and she took it in hers. He slowed to a stop near the golden trees, it was fall and all the leaves were yellow and red. He got out of the truck and so did she, the doors creaked on the rusted truck. He ran around the truck to where Kate was and gave her yellow tulips, her favorite flower. She smiled and giggled while twisting back and forth on her heels shyly. He then bent down on one knee pulled a little navy box out of his jacket and asked the
question. The question that every girl dreams of being asked, the question he asked was, “Will you marry me?” Kate started crying in
joy and screamed, “Yes!” He laughed, got up off his knee and
twirled her around! He then said, opening the car door, “Come on
let’s go out and celebrate.” Kate was so happy she couldn’t speak and simply nodded. She climbed in the car and and then a loud
“HONK!” Kate’s fiancé jerked his head right and was soon knocked
off his feet and thrown into the air. His blood splattered all over Kate’s face and she just watched her love in pain. She ran out of the car as soon as the diesel truck, covered in his blood, that had hit him was gone. She ran to her fiancé and his body was limp and covered in blood she held his head and placed it in her lap. She was crying and then he grabbed her hand and said, “I love you and always will. You have and forever will be my only love Kathryn Anne.” He smiled and closed his gorgeous blue eyes. She then held his body and rocked him back and forth while wailing in agony.
    ——————————————————————–
Kate then snapped out of her day dream or nightmare in this case. She turned around and saw the spot where he died, about 3 days ago. He died happy. The rain started to drizzle and soon stopped. Kate got up and saw a rainbow plastered in the sky, she stumbled to get up. She looked at her engagement ring and took it off. She picked up a flower and weaved around and through the ring. She then grasped it in her hand and ran to the nearest Oak tree. She climbed up into it and hung the ring in it’s branches. She then whispered, ” I love you to John and we can always be together in this spot, in this tree. This tree will always be my symbol of love for you. Always.” She smiled at the rainbow in the blue sky. She hugged the branch and closed her eyes as one last tear ran down her cheek. She muttered, “Yeah, Always.”

I added a rainbow just for Ms. Silver! Sorry I forgot the puppies. :D

  16. Austin Fickman Says:

Steve slowly opened the front door and quietly tiptoed towards his room. Once he passed the living room, the bright lights flickered on. His mom was standing there in the kitchen looking askance at him. It was 4:30 am and Steve was supposed to be home no later than 11:00. He was wearing a mask, which his mom found very unusual.
“Why are you home so late?” his mom asked.
“Uh…” Steve replied. He tried his best to fabricate an excuse, but instead he decided to just recapitulate what had happened.
“I’m waiting.” his mom replied. She was not happy.
“It was just after gloaming and I was still at Nick’s house,” he began. “Nick had an idea. There was a house at the end of the cul-de-sac guarded by tall iron gates. Nobody knew who lived in that house. Nick thought that it would be fun to go and egg the house. I agreed at the time, so we preceded. About 5 minutes later, we approached the gates, each of us holding a full carton of eggs. So we started throwing the eggs, but we were caught by the security camera. The gates began to open and emerging from the front door of the house was Mike Tyson, the great pugilist. Nick and I were pretty sure that he was going to kill us, so we started running. He chased us for a few miles and then we ended up in the woods. We were hiding behind trees and bushes, trying to look as inconspicuous as possible. We were pretty sure we had lost him. We were trying to find our way out of the woods, but we lost our sense of direction. We finally made it out about an hour later, but we were on the other side of town. About two hours later, we took a bus that stopped about three blocks away from our house. Then I walked home, and here we are now.”
“First of all, that was a lot of talking for a summary,” his mom said. “Second of all, that doesn’t explain why you’re wearing a mask.”
“Oh yeah,” Steve said nervously. “When we were on the other side of town, I stumbled upon what I thought was a henna tattoo shop. I has $20 in my pocket, so I decided to get one. I started feeling a stinging sensation of needles on my face.” Steve suddenly stopped talking. He was afraid to say more.
“What do you mean by needles?” his mom said with a worried look on her face.
Steve took a deep breath and slowly removed the mask. He had a snake undulating tattooed on his philtrum. His mom went berserk. Steve tried to change the subject and talk about a bunch of nonsense. His mom firmly told him to stop being so verbose.
    “You’re grounded!” his mom yelled.
“I saw that coming,” Steve replied.
“Drop your attitude!” his mom roared. Now she was really angry.
“Sorry mom.” Steve said. His stomach dropped. He didn’t like seeing his mom angry. It made him picture the Hulk in his mind.
“No TV for a month,” she said. This was only the beginning. “Also, no leaving the house except for school for 3 months. Also, no contact with any friends except for at school for 3 months.”
    “Is that it?” Steve said.
“Now that you have an attitude again, no,” she began. “I want you to take the vocabulary book that you use for school and look up the etymology for every word in there. Then I want you to write each one as well as the word on lined paper in neat cursive. If it’s not neat or you spell something incorrectly or have improper grammar, you start over.”
From that day on, Steve earned the sobriquet “Troublemaker.”

  17. Tori West Says:

Hannah struggled to stay alive she saw her puppy shoved into the car. And the last thing she saw before she died by a shot to the head was a rainbow. When, Jessica went back she saw her friend lying there she just stood there and sobbed there for hours. When she finally did return home she didn’t eat, sleep or drink anything due to depression . The next day her mother screamed when saw the red bedsheets. On top of th bed lay her 7 year old daughter wih a knife in her heart. As for the police officer, he was found out to be a mad pugilist in hiding. He went to jail for about 2 years, then broke out and went back to his old life of stealing, murdering, and fighting wherever he went.

( Please tell me how I did)

Did you know I keep a reading log too? Like you, I sometimes find it hard to recapitulate an entire novel in a small space; therefore, I sometimes comment more about my reaction and connections to the book rather than summarize the plot.
By the way, verbs are conjugated but sentences are not conjugated, which means the answer to number 27 on the vocabulary test is “no”.

  23. Amanda Stanaland Says:

The night it happened was so long ago. They day I lost myself was at least three-hundred years ago. Watching time pass by is so boring. Nothing to do but watch society wither away again and again. I’ve got all the time I want. But no one to share it with. It’s hard to recapulate what it was like. The sun, feeling it on your face. Feeling the warmth. To not heal so fast. A beating heart.

If I find one person–just one–to share this eternity with, I’ll be happy again. I had already found her centuries ago. But after that night I lost her. I could never see her again. I still visit her grave every day to see if she’s still there. I don’t remember much of being alive, but I do remember what it was like with her. “Luca.. Luca…” Her voice haunts me.
    ~~
I walk down the small streets of Paris. It’s so dark. A small car drives by, but other than that the streets are empty. I turn the corner and bump a young lady. She falls down. “Pardon me mada–” Her eyes, her hair, her lips, they’re all so similar.”

“Ah-ah! I’m so sorry!” She gets up and dusts herself off.

Her voice and her gestures are the same. Could it be? Is it her? Is she really back? “No, no. I bumped into you. I’m sorry.” I say, “Where to?”

“Opéra Madeleine” That hotel is just down the street.

I reach my hand out to her. “May I?”

She takes my hand. Her soft skin, her small frail hands, her beautiful nails. It’s her. No, it can’t be.

“Oh, pardon me, but what is your name, madame?”

    “Nathalie…” Her voice trails off.

Her name is the same too. I examine her face. It’s her–It’s my Nathalie! I pull her into an embrace and hug her tightly. I rest my head on her shoulder. Tears flood my eyes. It’s her.

“Nathalie.. Oh Nathalie… You’ve come back.”

A light snow falls over paris. It slowly comes down. It flutters over us and lands on our heads and backs. /I will embrace you until you disappear. You are mine, Nathalie./

  24. Abby Cohn! Says:

The day that my dog ran away was the most devastating day of my life. I can still remember the way Smoky rubbed his nose against my leg when he wanted to play fetch; his pale grey color and one bright blue eye and one as dark as charcoal. All of that is gone and now only a distant memory.

I woke up on what seemed like the coldest day ever, and waited for Smoky to come bounding in and slobber all over my face with his sandpaper tongue. After about a few minutes I got up and crept down the creaky old steps and there was no sign of Smoky. I figured that he was probably out his dog door and ran outside in the freezing snow.

“Smoky!”, I called, “Here Smoky!” No answer. I sprinted to my parents room and told them that Smoky was missing. They informed me that the police could help, so before they had even gotten up I was on the phone with the sheriff.

“Please recapitulate your story to the best of your memory, please.”said the sheriff. I told him everything, trying to hold back the tears stinging my eyes.

The sheriff said that he would do his best to locate Smoky, but in the meantime, just stay calm. But how could I be calm when I knew that he was out there somewhere all alone and probably scared to death. So, I waited and waited, but no sign of Smoky has been seen.

So, I guess I have managed; I mean It could’ve been worse. Still, not a day goes by when I don’t think about Smoky and his comforting lopsided grin. My mother says when I am ready that we can get a new dog. For a while I thought that nothing at all in the whole world could replace Smoky. Now that all of this is off my chest, I can finally make a place in my heart to welcome a new dog, and love him just as much as Smoky!

I woke up covered with pajama pants on my legs (I would never wear such soft material on my thighs). “Help! I can’t take them off.”, I said, “My boxers need to breath, help!!”. I tried to walk, but the pjs restricted circulation of the lower half of my body (the demon pants were crushing my intestines). I thought I was a going to die, but somehow an anaconda undulated into my room trying to bite my legs off. Lucky for me, it nicked my legs and bit the pants off, but unlucky for me, the soft material that I would of used for a sweater was disintegrated by the acids of the snake. Also my boxers were missing, but that’s another story. I got dressed with fresh new clothes, and the anaconda and I took a nap for a few hours. At the end the anaconda swallows me whole and I lived happily ever after in it’s stomach.

“I had a deviated septum, you know that!!!!!!” Sarah screamed while she gently applied concealer over the bright purple bruises under her eyes and across her new nose.

“We had the exact same face, trust me I know, but I embrace it.”

    “Ugh, whatever.”
