“Reading is to the Mind what Exercise is to the Body”

*EXTRA CREDIT* September 23, 2008

For each READING LOG you can earn up to 15 points extra credit.  Here’s how:

  1. Choose a book from that reading log. (up to 3 books for each reading log)
  2. Write a review/summary of the book.  Don’t worry about ruining the ending.  Show your knowledge of the book and share what you thought of it.
    • Look for main ideas. What big, important events happened during the story?
    • Talk about the main characters. Who were they? How did they change through the course of the book? What made you like or dislike them as you read?
    • Talk about turning points and the climax of the book.
    • Describe other important details. When and where (in what setting) did the story take place?
    • Give your opinion of the book. Was it good? What about the book made it good or bad, powerful or dull?
  3. Length is at least one page.
  4. Typed.
  5. Spell Checked/Edited for errors.

Just turning it in is not an automatic 5 points–it must be done well.

Does this extra credit count for each reading log? Or just the first one.

  2. Carly M (period.2) Says:

    Oh, wait. Nevermind.

  3. Eric P (period.1) Says:

how much is 15 extra credit points?

  4. silver215 Says:

    Carly, for each reading log.

Eric, the reading log is 100 points. If you read 1000 pages, you’d have 92 points. If you then did 3 well-written book reports, you could add 15 points to that grade, giving you a 107 on the reading log.

  5. ARIA H. Says:

is there any other way to get extra credit??

  6. silver215 Says:

Aria, I haven’t mentioned these book reports yet, but they are another extra credit opportunity. Read and follow the directions above. Let me know if you have any questions.

  7. Anya M. Says:

I heard that you get 2 points of extra credit for every 200 pages you go above the 1,200 required pages of the reading log. Is this true?

  8. stevenh Says:

when the redskins played the giants both redskins offense and defense suffered a bad case of rhinorrhea due to the big hits they took.

  9. Veronica H. Says:

how long do they have to be

  10. silver215 Says:

Veronica–look at number three in the directions.

  11. Katie Kaplan Says:

Hi, I’ve been sick, and you gave me this Great Depression packet. I was wondering if it has to be in cursive beacause I’ve already started and I didnt do it in cursive.. is that okay :\?

  12. silver215 Says:

It’s okay, Katie. Hope you’re feeling better.

  13. Bridget B. Says:

When is the last day to turn the extra credit in?

Also is it way to late to turn in the Mrs. Flowers essay in? It was due about 2 weeks ago, I think.

  14. silver215 Says:

Extra Credit is always due by the READING LOG for credit with that log.

  15. Anya M. Says:

I’m reading a book with two parts, almost two individual stories that have nothing to do with each other. They are at least 200 pages each. If I write two different summaries, would they count as different books?

  16. silver215 Says:

I think that sounds ok. What is the book?

  17. Anya M. Says:

It’s called “Angel’s Command”, by Brian Jacques. It’s the one I have been taking to school.
